Your passport will need at least six months of remaining validity upon your entry to Tanzania. Meaning: your passport must not expire within six months of your arrival to the country or you will not be permitted entry.

Only a handful of nationals are permitted visa-free travel to Tanzania, most of whom are other African nationals of bordering and nearby countries. All nationals of North America, Western Europe, East Asia, Australia, and New Zealand are required to pay a visa fee upon arrival to Tanzania. Foreign nationals may also take advantage of Tanzania’s new e-visa system ahead of their arrival for expedited entry.

Visa fees vary according to passport. Most travelers will pay $50 USD for their visas, while U.S. passport holders will pay $100 USD. Visas can be acquired upon arrival to Tanzania’s international airports and certain road crossings. Visas are valid for six months.

Suggested ports of arrival are Dar-es-Salaam International Airport, Zanzibar International Airport, and Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO). JRO Airport has several international connections.
